Posh supporter Saranne Thorpe (Nipper) wins League One Fan of the Month award.

Peterborough United fan Saranne Thorpe has been named the Sky Bet League 1 Fan of the Month for August.

Saranne, known affectionately as Nipper, is a regular at London Road and also attends all away games, except for when she goes on holiday each September.

During the League Cup game at Portsmouth on August 12, Saranne was hit in the face by a wayward shot from Posh striker Kyle Vassell nine minutes into the second half.

Saranne said: “I usually sit right next to the goal at London Road and I’ve never been hit there. I was twenty rows back at Fratton Park and Kyle still managed to hit me!

“I was rushed off to hospital, but luckily there was no lasting damage and I was back watching the Posh against MK Dons that Saturday.

“Kyle came over to my seat and apologised and when I picked up the Sky Bet trophy, he was really friendly.

“It was absolutely awesome to get the nomination for the award, and I can’t take the grin off my face now I’ve met the players.”

Peterborough United Chief Executive Bob Symns said: “Saranne has been a supporter of the football club many years, travelling home and away and it is fantastic that she is being recognised.

“A football club is nothing without its supporters and we are delighted that she has collected this award and look forward to seeing her at London Road on Saturday.”
