Marcus Maddison scored a stunning free-kick, but Oldham earn point at London Road.
Peterborough United were held to a 2-2 draw by Oldham Athletic at London Road after an entertaining Sky Bet League One encounter that ebbed and flowed at a decent pace, particularly in the second period. The visitors, wearing a fluorescent away kit, didn't take long to get into their stride and opened the scoring inside five minutes as the ball was worked in behind Burgess and a low cross was turned in from six-yards by Jonathan FORTE.
Just after the quarter mark, Posh were a whisker away from levelling as Marcus Maddison's effort from 25-yards struck the base of the post.
A few minutes later and Posh were level as Michael BOSTWICK, on his return to the starting line-up, fired a long-range strike into the back of the net via the inside of the post after a cross was only half cleared.
Only a poor touch from Conor Washington prevented Posh from finding themselves in front after a glorious ball from Payne, the skiddy surface also playing a part as Rachubka gratefully pounced on the loose ball.
Alnwick produced a fine double stop on 35 minutes to keep the scores level, his second stop preventing Philliskirk from stabbing the ball home from close-range.
On the stroke of half-time, Washington was denied by a goalline clearance after linking with James before Maddison's effort from range was pushed around the post by the Latic's goalkeeper.
Forte sliced wide at the back post after Jones' shot had deflected kindly into his path. On 50 minutes, Posh got themselves in front and what a goal it was. Marcus MADDISON who doesn't score simple goals, rifled a stunning side-footed free-kick into the top corner past Rachubka.
Payne was cautioned for a trip on 53 minutes by referee Mr Sarginson. Goalkeeper Rachubka made a fine stop to deny Burgess on the half volley as Posh pushed for a third goal.
On 65 minutes, the visitors levelled and Posh will be fuming with the way they conceded. A simple corner kick was headed home unmarked at the near post by KASUNGA.
Rachubka was well positioned to pluck a curler from Maddison out of the air on 69 minutes as Posh tried to get back in front in this topsy-turvy encounter.
Kane Ferdinand replaced Newell on 77 minutes as Darren Ferguson made his first switch of the afternoon. Posh were a whisker away from making it 3-2 on 79 minutes as Maddison's stunning strike from distance clipped the outside of the post.
Erhun Oztumer replaced Washington for his first appearance in a Posh shirt. Poleon dragged a shot wide of the near post.
