Kyle Vassell Helps Launch Of Peterborough Literacy Campaign.

Peterborough United striker Kyle Vassell was on hand to help launch the Peterborough Literacy Campaign at Leighton Primary School on Thursday (20th November) afternoon.

The National Literacy Trust has joined forces with Peterborough City Council with funding from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation to launch a new scheme to boost literacy levels in Peterborough.

To celebrate the launch of the Peterborough Literacy Campaign, local storytellers, sports stars and campaign ambassadors will tour the city, delivering fun storytelling sessions and handing out free books to children from local schools and local children’s centres across Peterborough.

Local television presenter and Hollywood actor Warwick Davis supports the launch of the Peterborough Literacy Campaign; “Learning about the world through reading for enjoyment from a young age and being able to express myself though writing and speaking has been essential for finding a career I love.

"As a parent, I know that sharing books with my children is a fantastic way to spend time as a family, so I fully support the Peterborough Literacy Campaign’s vital work in promoting the joy of reading and creating new opportunities for all young people in this city to develop their literacy skills and realise their potential.”

Any organisations or businesses interested in getting involved with Peterborough’s literacy hub and the Peterborough Literacy Campaign are asked to email the National Literacy Trust’s Peterborough Hub Manager, Sally Atkinson, sally.atkinson@literacytrust.org.uk.
