Peterborough United have signed Craig Mackail-Smith on a one-month loan deal from Brighton and Hove Albion.
Peterborough United have completed the loan signing of Craig Mackail-Smith from Brighton and Hove Albion with the fans favourite returning to the ABAX Stadium on a one-month loan deal.Mackail-Smith, who is on 99 goals for the football club, will go straight into the squad for Friday night's live televised Sky Bet League One fixture with Bristol City (7.45pm).
The striker will not be allowed to participate in the FA Cup fixture at Colchester United, but is eligible for league games up to the 28th December 2014.
Director of Football Barry Fry said: 'I would like to thank the Brighton and Hove Albion chairman Tony Bloom, Chief Executive Paul Barber and Head of Football Operations David Burke for their co-operation in making this happen. Brighton have been first class to deal with and despite seven Championship clubs showing interest in Craig, they allowed him to join us because we were the first to enquire. Hopefully this deal will benefit both parties.'
Mackail-Smith, who is likely to link up with former strike partner Aaron Mclean, said 'Ever since I left the club, the fact I am on 99 goals has been in the back of my mind, so this loan spell gives me the opportunity to get to 100 and obviously I want to score more goals to help the team.
'I am looking forward to playing games, I need some first team football and when I heard Peterborough were interested, it was a move that was ticked the boxes. I can't wait to get started.'
Boss Darren Ferguson said: 'It is great to have Craig and Aaron back at the football club and I am sure the supporters are buzzing. Those two can cause a lot of problems in this league and we are looking forward to the game on Friday night. I am expecting a typical Peterborough performance.
'It is a great signing for the football club to have Craig back and we have to thank Brighton for all their help and co-operation on making it happen for us.'
Mackail-Smith will wear the number 36 shirt during his stay at the ABAX Stadium.
