Sheffield United made it eight wins in a row as Posh suffer second successive league defeat.
Darren Ferguson's Peterborough United suffered a 2-0 defeat on the road as Sheffield United made it eight wins in a row with victory at Bramall Lane on Tuesday evening. After a relatively quiet start to proceedings, Posh came close to breaking the deadlock as Josh McQuoid, on his first start for the club saw a speculative volley go just wide of the far post.
Mark Little was close to scoring an own goal following a Shaun Miller low drive, the Posh full-back diverting the ball over the top for a corner kick.
On 20 minutes, McGinn was denied by Olejnik after the midfielder let fly from distance. The hosts were forced into their first change on 25 minutes as McFadzean limped out of proceedings to be replaced by Ryan Flynn.
The Blades created the first real chance in front of goal on 35 minutes as Little gave the ball away and McGinn let fly from 20-yards. The ball struck the base of the post with Paynter firing the rebound straight at goalkeeper Olejnik.
Miller fired over with his left-foot after a swift Blades counter-attack on 43 minutes as Posh were left with three on three at the back.
Posh made a nightmare start to the second period as the Blades opened the scoring through former Notts County midfielder Ben DAVIES who whipped a superb free-kick over the wall and into the top corner of Olejnik's net. The goalkeeper had no chance.
Darren Ferguson made a double change with Britt Assombalonga and Michael Bostwick introduced and then Joe Newell replaced Alcock in the final change by the Posh management.
Assombalonga showed good strength on 73 minutes to hold off the defender, but his shot went well wide of the target, while at the other end, Coady curled an effort just over the top after an intelligent lay off from Porter.
On 88 minutes, the Blades wrapped up all three points as Coady threaded the ball to substitute PORTER and he coolly finished past goalkeeper Olejnik from 10-yards.
In stoppage time, Newell fired wide after linking with Rowe as Posh tried to grab a late consolation.
