Peterborough United were held to a 0-0 draw by Charlton Athletic in the final pre-season friendly at London Road.

A much changed Peterborough United side were held to a 0-0 draw by Championship side Charlton Athletic at London Road with goalkeeper Ben Alnwick making several excellent saves.

Goalkeeper Ben Alnwick made the first save of the evening, making a routine stop from a long-range effort from Johann Gundmundsson.

Henderson got his first action on 18 minutes as he claimed a swerving Ajose shot at the second attempt after the former Manchester United youngster had collected a pass from Grant McCann.

Callum Harriott was denied by a fine last-ditch tackle from Smith before squandering a good opportunity from 10-yards, firing over on the volley with his left-foot.

Goalkeeper Alnwick was called upon to push a stinging Harriott effort from range before doing well to prevent Igor Vetokele from netting with a close-range header.

The lively Harriott saw a 25-yard curler caught by Alnwick, who was certainly the more busier of the two goalkeepers on show.

Alnwick made his best save of the half on the stroke of half-time, tipping a fierce effort from Gudmundsson over the crossbar.

Ajose saw a shot blocked and then fired wide with the follow-up as Posh threatened the first goal of the evening.

Vassell then collected a superb long-range pass in his stride, but after a glorious first touch, he lofted his shot wide of the far post.

Vetokele headed wide of the target on 63 minutes as the Addicks took their turn to attack. Tom Conlon replaced McEvoy who limped out of the fray on 69 minutes.

Alnwick denied substitute Cousins after the substitute had raced the length of the field as the match entered the final 10 minutes. Pigott fired wide with his first touch as Charlton continued to squander chances.

Jonny Edwards replaced Vassell on 85 minutes, fresh from his stunning strike in the Maunsell Cup final 24 hours earlier.
