A second half strike from Kgosi Ntlhe gave Peterborough United a first friendly victory.
Peterborough United recorded a 1-0 victory at Skrill Premier League side Barnet in the first pre-season friendly of the campaign with defender Kgosi Ntlhe bagging the only goal of the game eight minutes into the second period.Posh had appeals for an early penalty kick turned down as Nicky Ajose's shot appeared to be blocked by the hand of Jack Saville, but nothing was given by referee Mr Russell.
The home side came desperately close to the breakthrough on the quarter hour mark as a free-kick from Luisma Villa struck the post before John Akinde hit the other post with the rebound.
The lively Keanu Marsh-Brown fired over the bar after a clever through ball from Andy Yiadom.
Erhun Oztumer showed some neat touches and his quickly-taken free-kick picked out Joe Newell, but he clipped his lob over the crossbar.
Marsh-Brown was denied by Olejnik on 29 minutes before Oztumer went on a mazy run, leaving two defenders in his wake before clipping a shot past the far post.
Mendez-Laing fired over from 25-yards five minutes after the restart as Posh made nine changes at the interval.
The deadlock was broken on 53 minutes as Kgosi NTLHE poked the ball into the bottom corner with his left-foot after good persistence from Conor Washington and Jon Taylor.
Britt Assombalonga curled a shot over the bar on 68 minutes after good work from Mendez-Laing as Posh continued to dominate the second period.
A glorious crossfield pass from Ntlhe picked out Washington moments later, but the former Newport County man saw his controlled volley roll just past the far post.
Posh were given a scare on 86 minutes as Assombalonga limped out of proceedings following an aerial battle, but boss Darren Ferguson confirmed afterwards that he was replaced just as a precaution.
