Posh boss on how the players are adjusting after the first training session in Portugal.

Following the first training session in Portugal, manager Darren Ferguson expressed how pleased he was with the fitness levels of his players as they continue their pre-season preparations for the 2014/15 campaign, with a week-long intense training camp in Portugal.

“The heat obviously makes training for the players that bit harder, but we have been abroad before and the players have been dealing with the heat quite quickly. You would like to think that you will see the rewards once you get back to England.”

“I’m pleased with the players. They are all looking really fit. The football side of things has been very good too, which is important and we will gradually get them fitter and fitter over the rest of pre-season.”

Ferguson and his coaching staff put the players through their paces with a series of intense runs sandwiched between some football based drills as they prepare for their second pre-season friendly on Wednesday evening when they face S.C. Freamunde.

“We have been doing lots of ball work with them as well as the running and it is all looking good.  We will get another 45 minutes of game time in them on Wednesday and then gradually build that up to 60 minutes next week, making sure they understand the tactical side of things in how we want to play as a unit.”
