Britt At The Double

Britt Assombalonga netted twice, taking his season tally to 20, as Peterborough United recorded a 3-0 victory over Tranmere Rovers at London Road, taking their net tally against the opponents to 13 for the campaign.

Darren Ferguson's men were given an ideal start with a goal inside the opening five minutes as ASSOMBALONGA was felled in the box after a clever pass from Swanson, the front man taking the spot-kick himself and for the second time in a week, he sent the goalkeeper the wrong way from 12-yards.

Assombalonga saw a low shot saved by Fon Williams on 11 minutes as Posh continued to press. Nathaniel Knight-Percival, who scored in the defeat at Swindon, was denied by a smart reflex stop from Fon Williams on 22 minutes after racing onto a neat Swanson pass.

Knight-Percival was presented with another chance on 26 minutes as Brisley knocked a deep Swanson free-kick into his path, but the former Wrexham man couldn't keep his volley down.

The visitors struck the post inside two minutes of the second half with Pennington's strike hitting the inside of the post before rebounding into the grateful arms of Day. Stockton then headed a corner kick inches wide of the target as Rovers came out of the traps quickly.

Posh withdrew skipper Rowe on 56 minutes with experienced midfielder Grant McCann introduced as his replacement. Max Power was introduced from the bench as Tranmere shuffled their pack.

On 68 minutes, Fon Williams tipped over a curling free-kick from Swanson after a foul in a wide area. Posh had the ball in the back of the net moments later as Brisley met a McCann corner kick, but the referee disallowed the goal for an apparent push. Brisley was cautioned.

On 74 minutes, Posh got the second goal as Nicky AJOSE bagged his first goal for the club with a close-range header after good work from Danny Swanson.

Day made a fine stop to deny substitute Stockton and within a minute, Posh were down the other end making it 3-0. Swanson, who was excellent throughout, won the ball in midfield, fed Ajose, he in turn spotted top scorer ASSOMBALONGA who took a touch and calmly rolled the ball into the back of the net.

Kyle Vassell replaced Anderson three minutes from time.
