Nicky Ajose scored the only goal of the game as Posh claimed a vital 1-0 win at Stevenage.
Peterborough United capped an excellent week with a vital 1-0 away victory at Stevenage with Nicky Ajose bagging the winner 15 minutes from time at the Lamex Stadium.The first effort on goal for Darren Ferguson's men came on 21 minutes as Rowe burst to the by-line and picked out Danny Swanson at the back post, he took a touch and saw his volley superbly saved by Chris Day.
Moments later, Day was called upon again to deny a piledriver from Michael Bostwick from 20-yards, the shot-stopper doing well to stop the skidding effort finding the back of the net.
At the other end, Freeman curled a free-kick just wide of the near post after McCann was penalised for a foul 20-yards from goal. On the half hour mark, McCann saw a left-foot volley go straight at Day after good work from Nicky Ajose.
Assombalonga saw a glancing header routinely saved by Day before sending a wild effort from the angle well wide of the target. McCann fired inches past the post with a swerving left-footed effort on 37 minutes after good hold up play from Ajose.
Moments later, Nathaniel Knight-Percival was allowed to run unopposed from left-back, but his shot was sliced just wide of the upright. Day was called upon again on the stroke of half-time to parry a fierce drive from Bostwick from the edge of the area after prolonged pressure from the boy's in blue.
Posh were forced into a change moments after the break as Nathaniel Knight-Percival limped out of the action with Conor Washington his replacement.
Substitute Washington saw a shot kept out at the near post by Day before Little fired over from around 40-yards after a corner was only half-cleared.
Freeman guided a shot wide of the far post on 64 minutes after excellent hold up work from Zoko who was having a big say in proceedings.
The deadlock was broken on 75 minutes as a superb cross from Little picked out Nicky AJOSE and he made no mistake, sweeping home from close-range past Day to send the Posh fans wild in celebration.
Swanson wriggled his way into the box on 78 minutes, but his low shot was saved with the legs of Day before Ajose fired straight at the goalkeeper.
Olejnik made a superb stop to deny Freeman before Charles buried the rebound only for the linesman's flag to curtail the Stevenage celebrations.
Josh McQuoid replaced Swanson on 86 minutes with the Scotsman receiving a great ovation from the Posh faithful behind the goal.
