Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson believes Sunday’s FA Cup 2nd Round tie at Colchester United has come at the perfect time for the club.
Speaking to theposh.com Ferguson said: “Cup matches are totally different (to the league) there’s no doubt about that, and given it is the FA Cup I am sure we will have good support from the fans regardless of the match being live on BT Sport.”“It’s a welcome distraction, I’ll be honest. Friday was a tough one to take, not just the result, but the manner of the defeat and the players know that, but we have spoke in-depth about it and we leave it there and move forward.”
“It’s human nature that when you are on the kind of run that we are, confidence goes and it’s my job to build that back up. In the FA Cup, to know that if you get past this round you could draw a big club - that carrot can really put life into a dressing room so Sunday is a match we are all looking forward to.”
Ferguson will be going into Sunday’s FA Cup fixture without new recruits in Mackail-Smith and Beautyman who are both cup-tied, Marcus Maddison is also a doubt after picking up a knock on his ankle during Friday’s defeat.
