Peterborough United captain Jack Payne has urged supporters to stick with the team after a recent run of poor results.

“It’s tough when the fans turn against you, we can feel it on the pitch. We hear the boos, but they are entitled to their opinions - they pay their money to come and watch us and it’s down to us to put on a good performance which is something we haven’t provided recently.

“As captain I stand up to the plate and take responsibility, The gaffer can do all he likes in regards to prepping us and getting us ready but ultimately on a Saturday at 3pm its down to us the players and we know what we have to do.

“It’s my job as captain to ensure the group stay together which is what they are doing. It’s just about getting a win and once we get that, we can build on it and turn the season around - something every single player is desperate to do.

Peterborough United make the trip to Sky Bet League One rivals Colchester United on Sunday in the 2nd Round of the FA Cup and Payne is eager to progress in the competition.

"I've never really been that far in the FA Cup so to beat Colchester and to do well in the competition will be important to everyone's confidence," Payne added.
