Portsmouth moved into the second round of the Capital One Cup after a narrow 1-0 victory over Posh at Fratton Park.
A goal by Miles Storey earned League Two side Portsmouth a 1-0 win over Peterborough United at Fratton Park as Darren Ferguson's men exited the Capital One Cup at the first round stage.Posh, wearing their brand new black away kit, were on the back foot early on with goalkeeper Ben Alnwick called upon to make the first stop, denying Nigel Atangana on eight minutes.
The hosts grabbed the breakthrough on 12 minutes as former Swindon Town front man Miles STOREY fired across Alnwick and into the bottom corner of the net.
Michael Smith fired well wide with his left-foot on the quarter hour mark after a neat move from Darren Ferguson's men.
Ntlhe fired over from 25-yards after a patient Posh build-up just past the half hour. One minute of stoppage time at the end of the first half was indicated by the fourth official.
Kyle Vassell showed excellent close control and pace to power into the box two minutes after the re-start, but he couldn't keep his left-foot shot down.
Jones was then called upon to make his first stop of the evening, a fairly routine one to deny a low drive from Payne.
Alnwick then denied Dunne after a sublime piece of skill from the impressive Atangana before Storey fired wide of the far post after cutting inside from the right.
Kgosi Ntlhe had the ball in the back of the net on 55 minutes, but the offside flag was rightly raised to cut short the celebrations. Ryan Bird replaced the injured Storey just before the hour mark as the Portsmouth boss was forced into a change.
In fact less than 60 seconds later, they were forced into another switch with Adam Webster replacing Wynter at the back. Tyrone Barnett replaced Bassell on 65 minutes as Posh made their first substitution of the evening.
Westcarr had the ball in the back of the net on 70 minutes as Westcarr coolly slotted home, but the referee had already spotted a rather blatant handball. Mendez-Laing saw a left-foot shot blocked after working a short corner with McEvoy.
Grant McCann replaced Santos on 77 minutes as Posh went to three at the back. Posh pressed, particularly in six minutes of added time, but couldn't find a late leveller.
