Peterborough United travel to Kenilworth Road on Saturday to face league newcomers Luton Town in a pre-season friendly.

Peterborough United continue their preparations for the new Sky Bet League One campaign on Saturday with a visit to League new-boys Luton Town, who clinched promotion from the Skrill Premier League last term.

The fixture at Kenilworth Road (3pm) will give manager Darren Ferguson a chance to assess his squad ahead of the curtain-raiser at Rochdale on Saturday 9th August with only a friendly at St. Neots on Tuesday night remaining on the schedule.

Ferguson confirmed on Friday that the fixture against the Saints will be used as a 'practice match' rather than a fitness exercise so several first team players could be involved alongside those working their way back to full fitness.

Ferguson said: 'On Saturday, it will be the players that were not involved on Wednesday night against Charlton, but certainly the game on Tuesday at St. Neots will be a practice match scenario so there will be a number of players from the first team squad involved.

'Luton will provide arguably the toughest test of the pre-season so far. It will be a hugely competitive game and one that I am looking forward to. We have a lot of pace in forward areas at present and that excites me.'

Kenny McEvoy and Kyle Vassell, who both suffered knocks against Charlton, trained on Friday and will be in the squad for Saturday's fixture. Erhun Oztumer should be involved on Tuesday night.

'It has been frustrating for Erhun because he wants to get out there and play, but we have to be careful with him. We have had to increase his workload in pre-season from where he has come from, but he has just taken a bit of a niggly knock and we don't want to make it any worse.

'He should be involved on Tuesday night. It is a long season and he will be very much involved,' Ferguson added.

Admission for the game at Kenilworth Road cost £10 for adults, £5 for over 65s and under 17s and £1 for under 10s.
