Posh consolidated their place in the play-off positions with a deserved 2-0 win over Colchester United.

The word galvanize was used in the post-match celebrations by chairman Darragh MacAnthony and Peterborough United put in an excellent display against Colchester United to record a 2-0 victory at London Road.

Darren Ferguson's men made a bright start with Josh McQuoid and Michael Bostwick both seeing early efforts blocked by the Colchester defence.

Grant McCann worked a bit of magic on the edge of the box to create a shooting opportunity, but his superb left-foot curler crashed against the inside of the post before bouncing to safety.

The deadlock was broken on 26 minutes as a corner kick from Grant McCann was met by skipper Tommy ROWE who powered home a header from six yards.

David Wright was cautioned for a tug back on Danny Swanson on the half hour mark as he pounced on a loose ball. Craig Eastmond followed him into the book for a foul on McQuoid.

Swanson missed a golden opportunity on 54 minutes after dispossessing Eastman, but his right-foot side-foot was somehow deflected wide of the target.

Mark Little was cautioned for a foul on 58 minutes. On 65 minutes, Posh did get the second goal and it came from excellent hassling from Swanson who closed down a defensive clearance allowing ASSOMBALONGA to burst clear, he took a couple of touches and drilled the ball past Walker for his 29th goal of the season.

Lloyd Isgrove replaced the excellent McQuoid on 73 minutes as Ferguson made his first change. Conor Washington was replaced by Nicky Ajose on 81 minutes.

On 85 minutes, Payne fired wide with his left-foot after tricking his way into a shooting opportunity 25-yards from goal. Assombalonga dragged a shot wide of the target on 86 minutes.

Swanson was replaced to a standing ovation as Kyle Vassell was given a taste of the action after a spell on the sidelines with a broken toe.
