Late Bostwick Header Earns Point

Michael Bostwick scored a late header to earn Peterborough United a 2-2 draw at Crewe Alexandra as Posh fought back from 2-0 down to earn a point.

Posh made a very bright start against Crewe, creating a number of half chances inside the opening 10 minutes with Britt Assombalonga slicing wide after good work from Craig Alcock.

Grant McCann was then a whisker away from breakthrough with a 25-yard effort that had goalkeeper Phillips scrambling, but the ball went inches past the post.

However, it was the hosts who opened the scoring against the run of play and a good move it was too, Leitch-Smith fed Molyneux and he picked out OLIVER at the back post who had the simple task of sliding the ball into an empty net.

Posh were then a width of a post from levelling as Barnett rose highest to head a loose ball goal-wards and with the goalkeeper committed, it looked certain to trickle over the line, but unfortunately for Posh it struck the upright.

It was 2-0 to the hosts on 22 minutes as confusion at the back between Knight-Percival and Olejnik allowed LEITCH-SMITH to nip in and fire into the back of the net.

McCann saw a left-footed free-kick beaten away by Phillips on 26 minutes as Posh tried to get back into the game. The Northern Irishman then fired over from the edge of the area in open play after Assombalonga's cutback was only half cleared.

On the stroke of half-time, Posh finally got themselves on the score-sheet as a shot from Little was parried by Phillips into the path of BARNETT, he still had a bit to do, but rifled a left-foot shot past the goalkeeper and the man on the line.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing replaced Swanson just after the hour mark as Darren Ferguson made his first switch of the afternoon. Moments later and Posh were close to levelling as a Tomlin centre was met by Barnett, but his powerful header was tipped over by Phillips.

Olejnik denied former Accrington Stanley man Lee Molyneux's low free kick on 70 minutes before Jack Payne's wild left-foot volley at the other end.

On 84 minutes, Posh created their best opportunity of the half as an Alcock pull-back was deflected into the path of Tomlin, but he went for power and blazed a volley over the crossbar.

Tomlin tested Phillips in stoppage time with the goalkeeper parrying the ball behind for a corner and from the resulting set-piece, Michael BOSTWICK squeezed home a header at the near post.

In the final moments, Knight-Percival headed wide as Posh settled for a point.
