Shaun Jeffers scored a hat-trick as the development team beat Histon 4-0.

Striker Shaun Jeffers bagged a hat-trick as the Peterborough United Development Team beat Histon 4-0 at the Nene Park Academy.

The former Coventry City front man was in fine form in front of goal as Posh brushed aside the spirited challenge from the visitors.

Jeffers opened the scoring when he headed home at the near post following a strong run and cross from Joe Newell.

He added his second goal from the penalty spot after Jaanai Gordon was upended in the box by the goalkeeper, coolly sending the goalkeeper the wrong way from the spot.

Jeffers completed his hat-trick with a glancing header in the second half after good wing play from Matt Carter. The scoring was complete when Newell fired home with his right-foot from the edge of the area.

Substitute Shaq McDonald twice went close while fellow replacement Charlie Coulson saw a downward header saved by the legs of the Histon shot-stopper.

Posh: Day, Richens (sub Burgess), Grant (sub Carter), Knight-Percival, Brisley, Conlon (sub Anderson), Ferdinand, Newell (sub Coulson), Brown, Jeffers (sub Carthey) Gordon (sub McDonald).
