Michael Bostwick salvages a point for Posh after 2-2 draw with Charlton Athletic.

Michael Bostwick earned Peterborough United what could be a priceless point in the battle to avoid the drop from the npower Championship as the game ended 2-2 at London Road.

The visitors were lively in the early exchanges and could have found the back of the net twice in the opening exchanges, first Lawrie Wilson's stunning effort crashed against the underside of the crossbar before bouncing to safety before Danny Haynes fired across goal and out for a goal kick.

Olejnik was well placed to deny a free header from Ricardo Fuller as the visitors continued to threaten. At the other end, David Button smothered a close-range effort from Nathaniel Mendez-Laing after a glorious centre from Mark Little.

Zakuani had a better chance from a corner kick on 24 minutes, but he couldn't keep his volley down from close-range after great work from Michael Bostwick. However, moments later, Posh were in front and it was a superbly taken goal from Danny SWANSON, the former Dundee United man nutmegging the defender and providing a cool, composed finish past Button.

Button denied Mendez-Laing with a routine stop on 33 minutes after a direct run from the winger. Button produced an even better stop moments later to deny the same player after the former Wolves man had beaten the offside trap.

Moments after the re-start, Posh created a glorious chance to make it 2-0 as Swanson controlled a crossfield ball and picked out Tomlin, but on the stretch, his effort clipped the outside of the post.

Harriott sent a speculative volley wide of the target from 25-yards on 53 minutes. On 55 minutes, the Addicks levelled the scores as midfielder Johnnie JACKSON burst into the box and arrowed a left-foot shot across Button and into the back of the net.

On 58 minutes, Charlton got their noses in front as HAYNES prodded home from close-range after Olejnik had denied Michael Morrison. Kane Ferdinand replaced McCann moments after the goal.

On 72 minutes, Posh drew themselves level and it came from nothing, the ball fell to BOSTWICK and he let fly from distance, it was a skidding effort and Button will feel he should have done better, but the ball found the back of the net.

Tyrone Barnett replaced the excellent Swanson on 74 minutes. One time Posh loanee Jonathan Obika replaced Fuller on 77 minutes. Harriott headed a Jackson corner kick wide of the target as the game entered the final stages.

Substitute Barnett showed good poise and ability to turn his man on the edge of the area, but his left-foot shot went wide of the target. Rowe was denied right at the death by goalkeeper Button before a goal mouth scramble ensued with Posh just failing to pounce on the loose ball.
