The Posh under 18s drew 0-0 with Alsager Town in a pre-season friendly.
The Posh under 18s were held to a 0-0 draw when they faced Alsager Town in a pre-season friendly on Friday night (12 July).
Despite the stalemate the game proved a physical battle, which boss Gavin Strachan described as a good learning experience for the team.
Strachan said: 'This was a good education for our lads because Alsager play a few tiers down, so the creature comforts that they might get a bit complacent with weren’t there.
'The players had to deal with men who were very motivated to beat them, and they stood up to the physical test really, really well.’
Alsager, who currently play in the North West Counties Football League Premier Division, restricted Posh to only a handful of opportunities in front of goal and Strachan admitted that it was a disappointment they didn’t test the opposition goalkeeper more.
‘We were disappointed with the cutting edge. We got into good positions but didn’t really make that count, either with a final ball or a final shot. There was a lack of desire to get the shot away. They were the biggest problems that we had. Our team shape was really good though, that’s what we had been working on with the back four, and their aggression, we were a lot happier with that’, added Strachan.
The youth team face Newquay this Friday, (7.45pm ko).
