Goalkeeper Joe Day is going to fight hard for the number one spot at London Road.

For many players pre-season is all about fitness, for a goalkeeper it is a chance to stake your claim for the number one shirt. After a string of impressive saves against ex-Premier League side QPR on Saturday, Joe Day would have certainly caught the attention of Darren Ferguson and fans alike.

Day, who was between the sticks in the second half of the game, made two excellent stops from Alejandro Faurlin: ‘It was nice to make a few saves, as a goalkeeper that is where you get noticed a little bit. It was good quality opposition and I thoroughly enjoyed it.’

The youngster, who is yet to make a first team appearance for Posh, hopes to build on this performance and push Bobby Olejnik for a place in the starting eleven next season.

‘It is a good chance for me in pre-season to impress. Everyone starts at the same point in pre-season and it is up to me to work hard and put up a good battle against Bobby Olejnik. All I can do is train hard and when I get my chance, play well,' explained Day.
