A cool penalty from Grant McCann earned Posh a point against promotion-chasing Hull City.

A penalty from substitute Grant McCann earned Peterborough United a precious point against promotion chasing Hull City at London Road.

Dwight Gayle glanced a Davide Petrucci cross wide of the target on eight minutes after a quiet start to proceedings at a chilly London Road.

Jaanai Gordon, on his home league debut, skipped past Chester and found himself in a presentable shooting position, but he sliced his shot wide from 25-yards.

On 23 minutes, Robert Koren saw a 25-yard shot gathered by Bobby Olejnik, the first effort on target in the fixture. Quinn fired wide on 25 minutes after a corner was only half-cleared.

Proschwitz planted a header wide of the target from just six-yards on the half hour mark as Hull squandered the best opportunity of the first half to date.

On 33 minutes, Hull got their noses in front and it was a horrible sliced own goal by Joe Newell who failed to deal with a low corner at the near post, with the ball nestling in the far corner.

Gordon dragged a shot wide of the target on 40 minutes after Newell injected some pace into the proceedings from the middle of the park.

Petrucci fired over from long-range on 50 minutes after a quick Posh counter-attack, which was started by the on-loan Manchester United man. A Gordon cross struck the base of the post moments later as Posh tried to up the tempo.

Grant McCann replaced Petrucci on 63 minutes as Ferguson made his first switch. Nathaniel Mendez-Laing was next to be introduced as Posh went to a 4-4-2 formation.

Gordon fired wide from the edge of the area after showing good strength to knock McShane off the ball as Posh pressed for the equaliser. Posh found that leveller on 79 minutes as Tommy Rowe was felled in the box after riding three challenges and Grant MCCANN coolly converted from the spot.

Danny Swanson replaced Gordon on 81 minutes. Hull made a double change with Cairney and Stewart introduced by Steve Bruce. Olejnik somehow kept out a powerful McShane header while Stewart saw a shot deflected behind for a corner.
