Tommy Rowe brace not enough for Posh to claim maximum points.

Tommy Rowe scored a brace of goals, but Peterborough United were not able to hang on against play-off chasing Burnley at London Road with substitute Martin Paterson converting a late equaliser at London Road.

It was a dream start to the visitors as Charlie Austin, the division's leading marksmen was afforded time and space to poke the ball past Olejnik inside the opening two minutes.

Michael Bostwick headed a Grant McCann corner kick over the crossbar on nine minutes as Posh tried to recover from the nightmare start. Olejnik denied Austin from range at the other end after a weak header from Knight-Percival.

Rowe fired over after a mad scramble on 22 minutes with Lee Tomlin an increasing influence on proceedings. Trippier was the first man to receive a yellow card for a foul on Rowe on 34 minutes.

Zakuani headed a McCann set-piece over the top on 44 minutes before the fourth official indicated one minute of added time.

Tomlin sent a delicate chip just the upright after a good piece of hassling from McCann two minutes after the re-start. Gayle saw a low shot gathered by Grant after some neat touches in and around the area from Newell and Tomlin.

Alex Pritchard and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing replaced Newell and Knight-Percival as Posh went to a 4-4-2 system. Gayle immediately tested Grant with a skidding effort.

Gayle then curled a left-foot shot wide from 20-yards after cutting inside the full-back. Olejnik denied Ings at the other end as the game became stretched.

McCann saw a curling free-kick gathered by Grant on 62 minutes after a foul on substitute Pritchard.

Posh drew themselves level on 65 minutes and it was an extremely scrappy affair, the man eventually falling to ROWE who prodded the ball past Grant from close-range.

It was the Posh skipper ROWE who got Posh in front and what a goal it was. If the first was scrappy, this was all his own work, he ran 70 yards, skipping past two challenges and when the ball kindly fell into his path as Gayle intervened, he rifled the ball past Grant.

Olejnik beat out a Ings effort before McCann fired wide of the target as Posh tried to defend the lead. Pritchard saw a low right-foot shot go straight at Grant on 77 minutes.

Jack Payne replaced Tomlin on 85 minutes to try and sure up the Posh midfield. On 86 minutes, the visitors were level as substitute Martin PATERSON finished from close-range.

Olejnik produced a fine last gasp save to tip over Paterson's header before the full time whistle was blown.
