Birmingham take home all three points after a 2-0 win at London Road.

Birmingham City condemned Peterborough United to a 2-0 home reverse at London Road with Nikola Zigic and Chris Burke on target for the Blues.

Both sides traded shots at either end in the first five minutes with Lee Tomlin going close for the hosts, while Nikola Zigic was denied by goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik.

England goalkeeper Jack Butland enhanced his growing reputation with a fine double stop on 20 minutes to first deny Tommy Rowe and then Lee Tomlin after the two had combined beautifully on the edge of the area.

Kane Ferdinand headed a Dwight Gayle cross over the bar on 25 minutes after good work in the build-up from Joe Newell.

Ferdinand was then denied by Butland after good work from Tomlin as Posh pressed for the breakthrough.

Olejnik denied Lovenkrands on 33 minutes after a sustained spell of pressure from Lee Clark's visitors. The deadlock was broken moments later as a stray pass from McCann was intercepted by Burke, he cut inside and saw his left-foot shot parried by Olejnik into the path of ZIGIC who could make no mistake from close-range.

Olejnik appeared to tip a ferocious long-range effort from Reilly onto the crossbar on 39 minutes as Blues threatened a second. Lovenkrands then glanced a header inches past the post with Olejnik stranded.

A Michael Bostwick volley was somehow kept out by a combination of Caldwell and Butland on the stroke of half time following a McCann free-kick from the right.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing felt he should have been given a penalty early in the second half as he appeared to be chopped down in the box by Hancox, but the referee was unmoved and gave no decision.

On the hour mark, Darren Ferguson made his first change with Danny Swanson replacing Newell. Bostwick fired a free kick wide moments later. Gayle was inches away from converting a Rowe cross at the near post, but couldn't stretch enough to get a telling touch.

Butland was keeping the visitors in it and he made another fine stop to prevent Lee Tomlin's glancing header from finding the back of the net after Little had dug out a cross to the penalty spot.

When your luck is out, the luck is out and the visitors added a fortunate second as a shot from Chris BURKE took a massive deflection via Gabi Zakuani and looped over a stranded Olejnik.

Zigic had the ball in the back of the net again on 82 minutes, but the offside flag cut short the Blues celebrations. Thomas was denied by point blank range by Olejnik on 88 minutes after an Elliott clipped free-kick.
