Jonathan Edwards was on target as the Posh under 18s defeated Southend United 2-0 on Saturday morning.

The Peterborough United under 18s remain unbeaten this season after a comfortable 2-0 home success over Southend United at the Nene Park Academy on Saturday morning.

Gavin Strachan's men were always in control against the Shrimpers and opened the scoring through Jonathan Edwards' well-taken effort.

The striker won praise from his manager who described his performance as his 'best in a Posh shirt.'

Southend were reduced to 10-men in the second half when a bad tackle on defender Joe Burgess was punished by the referee. Burgess was taken by ambulance to hospital, but the injury is not as bad as first feared.

Posh doubled their advantage when in-form midfield man Tom Conlon finished a one-on-one opportunity late on.

Strachan said: 'It was a fairly comfortable win for us. There were times in the game where we were a little bit scrappy, but when they went down to 10-men, we tried to make the pitch a bit bigger and we caused them problems.

'It was great that Harry Baldry got five minutes of action. He is still an under 15 so for him to be involved was a great experience for him.'

Posh: O'Reilly, Lunga-Lunga, Burgess, Marshall, Carter, Coulson, Ward, Conlon, Luto, Carthey, Edwards. Subs used: Baldry, Lousby, Wyatt, Akubuine.
