Gabriel Zakuani found the back of the net, but reserves are beaten.

Club captain Gabriel Zakuani was on the score-sheet for the Peterborough United reserves against Dagenham and Redbridge, but the visitors held on for a 2-1 victory at the Nene Park Academy.

Zakuani powered home a header from a Joe Newell corner kick in the second period, but despite immense pressure in the final stages, Posh could not force home an equaliser.

Danny Swanson provided an energetic performance from midfield and was denied a fine goal by a stunning save by the Dagenham shot-stopper whose fingertips pushed the ball around the post.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing saw two shots blocked while young midfield man Jermaine Anderson saw a low shot go wide of the target after bursting into the box.

Barry Richardson produced a fine save in the second half to keep the score at 2-0, tipping over a close-range header.

Dominic Green was in the Dagenham line-up.

Posh: Richardson, Butt, Burgess (sub Lawlor), Zakuani, Sage, Mendez-Laing, Swanson, Newell, Anderson, Gordon, Wood (sub Coulson).
