David Hibbert completed 45 minutes on his comeback from injury in 1-1 draw.
Striker David Hibbert completed 45 minutes in his comeback from a long injury lay-off as a strong Peterborough United reserve side drew 1-1 with the Nike Academy on Wednesday evening.
In blustery conditions at the Nene Park Academy, both sides struggled to cope with the conditions in the early exchanges, but it was Hibbert who stood out and he came close to finding the breakthrough on five minutes as his header was saved.
Danny Swanson went close with a low drive from the edge of the area, before the visitors were given the chance to open the scoring after being awarded a spot-kick after a foul at the back post. However, goalkeeper Joe Day produced a fine stop to keep the scores level.
Posh were awarded a penalty of their own moments later as Lee Tomlin was upended in the box, but Lee Frecklington fired his spot-kick over the crossbar.
Joe Newell felt he should have been given a penalty after appearing to be tripped inside the box, but this time the referee waved away the protests.
Jonson Clarke-Harris, Jaanai Gordon and Charlie Butt were introduced after the break and the former came close to making it 1-0, but he fired wide with his left-foot.
The Nike Academy opened the scoring when a long throw got a touch and found the back of the net, but they were not ahead for long as Nathaniel Mendez-Laing crashed a shot into the back of the net via the inside of the post.
Posh: Day, Richens (sub Butt), Grant, Zakuani (sub Sage), Griffiths, Frecklington, Newell, Swanson, Mendez-Laing, Hibbert (sub Gordon), Tomlin (sub Clarke-Harris).
