Barry Fry on hand to open new sports facility in Chatteris

Sunday 28th October saw the Grand opening of Chatteris Leisure and the All Weather Pitch. Local celebrities Louis Smith and Barry Fry were invited on the day to open both of the facilities.

The event commenced at 12 noon with the Peterborough United Foundation delivering the first of 3 football coaching sessions. The first session saw 22 children aged 5-11 taking part in a fun based technical session. Towards the end of the session Barry Fry joined the children on the pitch to take a look around the new state of the art full size 3G Astroturf at Cromwell Community College. Following this Barry officially opened the new Astroturf and pavilion on stage together with Alan Melton, Leader of Fenland District Council. He very kindly also stopped to sign autographs and chat to the local residents.

After the grand opening Peterborough United Foundation coaches delivered two more sessions for children aged 12-16 and 16+. These saw 30 children participate across both sessions. All of the participants thoroughly enjoyed themselves and benefited from the expert knowledge of the Peterborough United coaches.

Later on in the day, Olympic Silver Medalist Louis Smith officially opened the Chatteris Leisure Facility much to the delight of the 1,000+ crowd that had turned out to welcome him.
