The youth team continued preparations for the new campaign with a 3-2 friendly win over Brighton.

The Peterborough United youth team continued preparations for the new campaign with a 3-2 friendly victory over Brighton and Hove Albion.

The fixture, which was played on the 3G Astro Turf at St. Neots FC, was split into four periods of 25 minutes to allow the majority of both squads to get some match action under their belts. Posh made a quick start and were 2-0 up inside the first five minutes as Brighton struggled to cope with the quick passing style.

It was Jaanai Gordon who opened the scoring, rifling home a sweet left-foote effort from 18-yards into the bottom corner after good approach play. Moments later and Regan Carthy got himself on the score-sheet, slotting the ball past the advancing goalkeeper with his left-foot.

Posh goalkeeper Alex Lynch, who spent last week in Portugal with the first team at a training camp, made an excellent stop on 33 minutes, pushing a fierce drive from 20-yards over the crossbar. Carthy went cloes to making it 3-0, but was denied by the goalkeeper before Dan Lawlor fired wide of the target.

The visitors pulled a goal back in at the end of period two from close-range, but the two goal cushion was restored by an clinical finish by Tom Wood, who collected a pass on his right-foot, before drilling the ball into the back of the net with his left-foot via the inside of the post.

Matt Sparrow was denied late on by the Seagulls goalkeeper before the referee brought an end to proceedings.

Posh (1st two periods): Lynch, Butt, Sage, Hendry, Richens, Carthy, Lawlor, Coulson, Trialist, Wright, Gordon.

Posh (last two periods): O'Relilly, Trialist, Carter, Hendry, Butt, Burgess, Sellick, Sparrow, Carey, Wood, Trialist.
