Joe Day impressive between the sticks despite Posh defeat.

A young Peterborough untied side may have been beaten 4-0 at AFC Rushden on Friday night, but there were positives to come from the display in the latest pre-season friendly.

Goalkeeper Joe Day completed 45 minutes between the sticks and made a string of fine saves, one in particularly from point blank range was excellent, while summer signing Jonson Clarke-Harris also got 45 minutes under his belt.

In fact, the score-line flattered the hosts as Posh created a number of opportunities in front of goal with Tim Cary seeing an effort cleared off the line in the first half with the scores level, while left-back Scott Griffiths saw his shot go inches past the post after a forceful run.

The home side scored twice just after the half hour mark with Alfie Taylor bagging a brace, the second was a very eye-catching finish. Posh made changes at the interval but conceded twice after the break with Chris Hope bundling home from close-range and the fourth goal took a deflection before finding the bottom of the net.

Substitute Joe Burgess struck the outside of the post for Posh while Matt Sparrow also went close as Posh pushed for a consolation goal, but it was not to be.
