On Thursday 21st June, Nene Park Academy held its very first Sports Awards Evening at London Road Stadium.

On Thursday 21st June, Nene Park Academy held its very first Sports Awards Evening at London Road Stadium. This was the first of, what the school hopes will be, many such evenings aimed at celebrating the success of many of the Academy's students and of the achievements of its teams.

The idea behind the evening was to recognise and reward the efforts of the pupils who have attended practices and fixtures throughout the year and to acknowledge the support of the staff and parents in both running and organising the practices and fixtures and in turning up to support our teams.

In the last academic year Nene Park Academy students participated in over 140 fixtures across all year groups covering a wide variety of different sporting activities and, as there are still a number of Rounders, Cricket and Athletics fixtures to come, by the end of this academic year over 280 fixtures will have been completed by its students! This is a HUGE achievement for everyone involved in the PE department at Nene Park Academy.

Nene Park Academy was privileged to have Posh manager Darren Ferguson as the Guest of Honour at the Presentation Evening and he presented the prizes and certificates to each of the lucky winners. The students were thrilled to meet Darren and he posed happily for photos with many at the end of the evening, all of which made for a hugely exciting and entertaining evening for everyone.

Things have never looked more positive for the PE Department here at Nene Park Academy and, with the refurbishment of all the PE facilities, including a state of the art Fitness Suite and a Dance Studio, through to the close partnership with Peterborough United and the prospect of them looking to investing in a flood lit, all-weather pitch alongside a new pavilion, with medical and educational facilities for use by the school and club, the future could not look brighter.

In addition to this, the PE Department is also looking to develop the range of sports on offer at the school with Rugby, Hockey, Golf and Dance becoming major areas to focus on during the next academic year.

It has been an exceptional year of Sport at Nene Park Academy and everyone involved should be extremely proud of their achievements. View more images from the evening by clicking here.
