Michael Richens played 45 minutes in the under 18s defeat to Luton Town.

The Peterborough United youth team face Dagenham and Redbridge on Saturday in the final fixture before the eagerly awaited FA Youth Cup third round tie with Aston Villa at London Road on Wednesday 12th December (7pm).

On Tuesday, the youngsters entertained Luton Town on the all-weather pitch at St. Neots, but it was a frustrating afternoon as the Hatters converted both chances they created in front of goal and claimed an undeserved 2-0 victory.

Posh created numerous opportunities in front of goal in the first period, but a combination of good goalkeeping and wayward finishing kept the scores level and then the Hatters nudged themselves in front following a defensive error.

Gavin Strachan’s men huffed and puffed in the second period, but failed to convert any of the half-chances that came their way and the visitors added a second following another defensive error. Other than the two goals, goalkeeper Alex Lynch was not troubled.

Posh gave Michael Richens a 45-minute run-out as he continued his comeback from injury. The right-back is very much in contention for the youth cup tie with Aston Villa.

Posh: Lynch, Richens (sub Carter), Sage, Hendry, Butt, Burgess, Conlon, Coulson, Carthey, Gordon, Sparrow. Subs unused: Wright, Phillips, Ward.
