Jaanai Gordon scored twice as the Posh youngsters beat Stevenage 4-2.

Jaanai Gordon scored twice as the Peterborough United under 18s continued their preparations for the FA Youth Cup third round tie with Aston Villa at London Road in January 2013 with a 4-2 victory over Stevenage.

Posh started well with Dan Lawlor controlling midfield with a fantastic range of passing, which opened up the Stevenage defence on a number of occasions. Jaanai Gordon opened the scoring early on in the first period, firing into the roof of the net from seven yards.

A number of the Posh youngsters could have got themselves on the scoresheet, but for an excellent goalkeeping display by the Stevenage goalkeeper. Stevenage equalised on the counter attack just after the break, but Gavin Strachan’s men battled back and got themselves in front when Shaquill Macdonald made it 2-1.

Michael Richens made it 3-1 from the penalty spot after Tom Wood was upended in the box. Jaanai Gordon then made it 4-1 with a great strike after cutting inside from the left, curling the ball
into the top corner from 25-yards. Stevenage pulled a goal back late on.

Academy manager Dave Robertson said: ‘It was a good performance from a number of individuals and we scored some excellent goals.  Jaanai’s second goal was a fine strike, but we were pleased with the display. Jaanai scored twice and had two goals disallowed, it was a great display from him.'
