The domestic league season gets underway on Saturday and Joe Newell is desperate to be involved.

The npower Championship campaign gets underway on Saturday and Peterborough United kick-off with a tough assignment at one of the division's promotion favourites, Leicester City (3pm).

All of the Posh squad are desperate to be involved in the fixture at the King Power Stadium including teenage midfielder Joe Newell who set the benchmark for the club's Goal of the Season competition with a stunning chip in the 4-0 win over Southend United on Tuesday night in the first round of the Capital One Cup.

'The goal was a nice bonus and a real spur of the moment thing. George Boyd ran round me and took a defender with him, but the ball then got a bit stuck under my foot and that helped me make my mind up to try a lob.

“It came off this time which was pleasing, but it’s consistency in my game that I’m after now. I want to start as many games as I possibly can in the Championship so I need to play to a good level every game.

“I had a few games last season (15), but it’s important to me that I make progress and play a few more.

“I hope I’m involved at Leicester. It’s a big game for us, a local derby in front of a full house and we will take some fantastic support, so all the players will want to be involved,' Newell said.
