Millwall Under 18s v Posh Under 18s: Match Preview

Hugh Alban-Jones

After a positive pre-season, the Posh Under 18s start their Professional Development League campaign this weekend with a trip to the capital.

The Peterborough United Under 18s open their Professional Development League campaign with a trip to Millwall on Saturday (12pm) with Hugh Alban-Jones' side looking to make a positive start to the campaign.

Following the departure of Lead Under 18s Coach Jimmy Unwin to Norwich City during the summer, Alban-Jones has been in interim charge of the Under 18s and will be in the dugout for the clash with the Lions.

TEAM NEWS

Posh have a clean bill of health for the game with a number of players who have been representing the Under 21s added to the squad, alongside a clutch of Under 16s who will also be part of the travelling party.

MANAGER QUOTES

"It is a tough start for us, but ultimately all the work in pre-season leads towards this moment. We have prepared well, we are looking forward to the test that they will provide and hopefully we can put in a positive performance.

"We have pretty much everyone involved, we have a number of the older second years who have been training and playing with the Under 21s available to us because that group don't have a game until next weekend," Alban-Jones said.

The Posh Under 18s were beaten 2-0 by Millwall on the opening day of the Professional Development League season.

With two under 15s in the starting line-up, Posh were competitive throughout, but were ultimately undone by a dubious goal via a deflection and a sloppy defensive mistake for the second.

Interim Lead Under 18s Coach Hugh Alban-Jones took positives from aspect of their display, but admitted they need to more clinical in front of goal.

"It was a cagy, competitive game, which you would probably expect on the opening day of the season. I don't think there was too much between the two teams, the first goal was a bit questionable because I am not too sure it crossed the line and then we could have done better with the second goal.

"We got into some good positions, but perhaps it was a day where we needed to be a bit more clinical in front of goal. We had two under 15s in the line-up, both did well, Cordell was lively on the wing and Aaron was strong at the back.

"The three substitutes that came on all provided a positive impact, we finished the game strongly so there are positives to take from aspects of the performance."

Posh: Bucknor, Bushell, Joseph, Christoudias (sub Chibuzo 80min), Arber, Sudakaran, Morgan-Antonio, Crozier (sub Jones 60min), Simmons, Mlityalwa (sub Norville 74min), Dagne. Unused subs: Al Sammour, Sango, Fraser.
