Lincoln United Women v Posh Women

Peterborough United Women will look to extend their unbeaten FA Women’s National League Midlands start to 12 games when they travel to Lincoln United on Sunday (2pm).

We will look to narrow the gap on leaders Boldmere St Michaels – albeit we do still have three games in hand – when we make the trip to the Whites on Sunday.

Alex Brito Nogueira was defeated 1-0 by Northampton Town in his last game as head coach for the club, recently announcing his departure away from Lincoln, who are stuck at the bottom with one point, ten from safety, as they start their recruitment process.

The game was set up to be our second away one on the spin, but as has been the story post-Christmas, we were made to wait for back-to-back game weeks, last beating Notts County a fortnight ago.

But Jake Poole’s side will take confidence from a controlling performance at PIMS Park, as Jess Rousseau (2) and Hayley James added to their season’s tallies.

Niamh Reynolds is recovering well and should be back in the matchday squad soon, but for now misses out. There are one or two other knocks within the squad that are currently being managed.

They have been competitive over the last few weeks, so it’s a game that we have to treat with the upmost respect; they have some good players, and playing at home is always going to be an advantage, but we go there knowing that we have to be at our ruthless best to achieve what we want to achieve from the game," Jake Poole said.

Peterborough United Women eased to a comfortable 6-0 away win at Lincoln United in FAWNL Division One Midlands action.

Jake Poole’s side made it back-to-back wins in the new year and 12 unbeaten in the FA Women’s National League Midlands, with a deserved three points on the road.

Just as importantly, the three points also strengthened our grip on second place and saw us close the gap on leaders Boldmere St Michaels to two points, who were without a game this afternoon.

The Mikes still have played two more games, however, a small edge which could prove costly later in the season.

Showing one change from the side that beat Notts County, Courtney Clarke came into the midfield three in place of Kayleigh Hines, who dropped out the squad entirely, for our only change.

Two weeks on from beating County for the third time this season, the damage was done much earlier this time around when Rebecca Mears’ drive was pushed out to ROUSSEAU, who timed her run to give us the deserved lead.

Comfortable in possession and astute in their reading of the game, Jake Poole’s team were always half a second ahead, it must be said.

The credit must go down to Davies, though, who kept her side largely in the game for an hour with a cameo of saves.

Keir Perkins was unlucky not to add a second on 43 minutes, as our captain worked space down the left, but the woodwork came to the Whites’ rescue.

Posh started strongly on from the break, with Rousseau coming closest to doubling our lead with an effort into the side-netting.

Poole’s side continued to plug away at the Whites’ defence and saw their pressure rewarded on 52 minutes.

BROWN made it 2-0 as her powerful effort from the edge of the box cracked against the underside of the crossbar and over the line thanks to the vision of the assistant referee.

MEARS soon made it three, arriving late to meet Perkins’ low delivery. Nothing less than she deserved for today’s tireless performance.

Any shred of doubt was removed when JAMES and ROUSSEAU added goal numbers four and five in quick succession, with the latter curling one into the top corner from range - a superb effort from the striker for her 12th goal of the season.

In stoppage time, DRISCOLL-KING scored a sixth to complete a professional performance on our travels, the full-back seeing her right-foot effort curl past the keeper and into the back of the net after an intelligent lay-off from Tara Kirk.
