Peterborough United Women switch their attention over to the Adobe Women’s FA Cup second round proper bout with Wallsend BC on Sunday (1pm).

Peterborough United Women are back in Adobe Women’s FA Cup action this weekend, playing host to Wallsend BC, who make the trip from Tyneside in the second round proper.

Jake Poole’s team stretched their unbeaten run in the FA Women’s National League to nine games after holding Barnsley to a draw in South Yorkshire last time around, and will be looking to carry the momentum over to Sunday when they return to their PIMS Park home.

Posh will be looking to outdo their cup run with a win on Sunday, though, having fallen at the second stage last season with a defeat to Rugby Borough.

TEAM NEWS

Striker Tara Kirk is now back in full training and will be added to the Posh squad. There are a number of players nursing injuries following last week's fixture and the Posh management may make changes to their XI with Poppie Brown, Meg Lawlor and Edyn Osker chomping at the bit.

Posh moved into the third round of the Adobe Women's FA Cup after a 4-0 win over Wallsend BC at PIMS Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Peterborough United Women will travel to Tier 3 side Burnley in the third round of the Adobe Women's FA Cup after a 4-0 victory over Wallsend BC at PIMS Park with substitute Renai Bennett netting a second half brace in a comfortable afternoon for Jake Poole's side.

In fact, it was a crazy afternoon in terms of the chances that Posh created with the Wallsend goalkeeper deserving huge credit for her performance between the sticks with a string of impressive saves.

When she wasn't keeping the ball out of the back of the net, the woodwork was coming to her rescue and the frame of the goal will be battered and bruised this evening as it was struck an unbelievable nine times in the 90 minutes.

Kira Rai was the first to hit the woodwork on six minutes and within the same move Niamh Reynolds repeated the trick before Keir Perkins'  shot was diverted onto the post on 15 minutes.

Kayleigh Hines hit the woodwork on 24 minutes before Rai was kept out by the keeper. Jess Rousseau twice went close before Reynolds hit the frame of the goal for the second time.

Perkins had the ball in the back of the net from the rebound but her goal was chalked off for offside. Rousseau was denied by the keeper on 37 minutes before the deadlock was finally broken as ROUSSEAU fired home from close-range after Perkins' effort was parried by the goalkeeper.

Just before the hour mark, the woodwork was back in the action, this time it was Bennett who saw her effort from the edge of the box clip the top of the bar. Edyn Osker was denied by the goalkeeper once more before BENNETT guided the ball over the goal-line from a corner kick to double the advantage.

Tara Kirk, making her first appearance of the season after injury, was denied by a fine block before being kept out by the goalkeeper before Rebecca Mears saw an effort clip the woodwork again.

As the game moved towards its conclusion, BENNETT got her second of the game as she poked the ball past the goalkeeper before OSKER completed the scoring with a close-range header following an Emily Sharpe cross.

Posh will travel to Burnley on Sunday 14th December with full details to be announced in due course.

Posh: Corry, Osker, Sharpe, Clarke (sub Cragg 80min), Lawlor, Hines, Rai (sub Meli 59min), Perkins, Reynolds (sub Mears 59min), Rousseau (sub Kirk 75min), Brown (sub Bennett 60min). Unused subs: Driscoll-King, Pitt.
