A look ahead to the curtain raiser for the Under 21s as they make the trip to Bristol City on Tuesday afternoon (1.30pm).

The Peterborough United Under 21s travel to the Robins High Performance Centre to take on Bristol City in the opening Professional Development League fixture of the season on Tuesday (1.30pm).

Lead Under 21 Coach Sam Gaughran's squad will feature a number of players that have already tasted first team action this season.

TEAM NEWS

Striker David Kamara is unavailable due to injury, while Pemi Aderoju is out on-loan, so a smattering of first team players will feature against the Robins.

First team manager Darren Ferguson said in the pre-match press conference ahead of his fixture at Accrington Stanley that players 'needed minutes' and he wanted to give other players 'an opportunity' in the Carabao Cup tie.

THE OPPONENTS

The Robins finished eighth in Group B of the Professional Development League last time around with 40 points from their 31 fixtures played. Only one game in the table has taken place so far this season with Swansea City defeating Crewe Alexandra.

There will be updates from the game on the club's Academy X page, which can be found here

Two fast-paced goals either side of half-time saw Posh get three points at Robins High Performance Centre.

The season started strongly for Peterborough United Under 21’s as Sam Gaughran's men prevailed with a 2-1 victory over Bristol City Under 21’s, who struggled to contain the forward line of the Posh.

A tidy finish from the Robins late in the first half was cancelled out by two counter-attacking goals, which proved to be enough for the away side to claim bragging rights in Bristol.

Ruebin Sheppard forced an early save for Ben Westcott, as the Robins started brightly. Bristol City continued to pile on the pressure, and had a great chance to score, only for Noah Freeman to make a sliding block to prevent the home side from taking an early lead.

Posh grew stronger and stronger as the first half progressed, and caught Bristol City out on the half-hour mark, leading Zak Ali to bring Jacob Wakeling down, forcing referee Steven Swan to produce the first yellow card of the afternoon.

The breakthrough came in the 43rd minute when Bristol City’s Adam MURPHY fired a low finish into the bottom corner.

Posh didn’t take long to respond and hit the hosts on a rapid counter-attack, with some fortune as Jacob Wakeling’s effort fell at the feet of Chris CONN-CLARKE, who lashed the ball into the net.

The hosts hadn’t learnt from the first half counter-attacks, as the Posh hit them with three consecutive counters, with the third finding the back of the net from Jacob WAKELING.

The counters continued to flourish with the Posh forward line and Steven Swan presented his second yellow card, as Zac King Phillips delayed the restart.

Ben Westcott produced a great save in the 88th minute to send Posh home with all three points.
