TEAM NEWS

Unwin confirmed there are no fresh injury worries to contend with and several players who have been carrying knocks are now back available for selection.

FROM THE MANAGER

"Sheffield Wednesday are a strong Academy and they always produce good players so it will be a tough test for us. We should have a strong squad available to us, including several youngsters filtering back into the group.

"We want to build some momentum after last weeks win, everyone is declaring themselves fit to play, it is almost as if there is a big cup tie on the horizon! In all seriousness, it is great that there is a lot of excitement around the team at the minute, but we have to focus on the league games first," Unwin said.

Three first half goals secure maximum points for the Posh Under 18s at the Bespoke Builds Training Ground.

Peterborough United U18 secured a convincing 3–1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday at the Bespoke Builds Training Ground, delivering a composed and well-balanced performance to collect all three points. The Posh struck three times inside the opening half-hour to take early control of the contest and managed the second half with maturity despite challenging conditions.

The Posh made a bright start, imposing a high tempo and attacking intent from the first whistle. The breakthrough came after ten minutes when Christoudias delivered an accurate corner and MENDONCA rose superbly to power home a header. Just two minutes later, SHOFOWOKE doubled the lead with a composed curling effort from the edge of the box, giving the Posh early momentum.

SYKUT added a third in the 20th minute with a stunning long-range strike that restored control following Sheffield Wednesday’s earlier goal. The Posh continued to threaten throughout the half, creating several promising moments, while Bucknor produced two excellent saves to maintain the advantage heading into the break.

In the 18th minute, Sheffield Wednesday pulled one back, but the Posh responded immediately as SYKUT restored the two-goal cushion with a stunning long-range strike on 20 minutes. The Posh continued to press aggressively for the remainder of the half, creating several more opportunities, while Bucknor produced two excellent saves at the other end to provide crucial stability and keep the hosts firmly in control.

Sheffield Wednesday pressed aggressively in the second half in search of a way back into the match, and the heavy rain made the pitch increasingly difficult to manage. However, the Posh remained organised and focused. Bucknor delivered a series of crucial saves to keep the visitors at bay, and the side continued to pose a threat on the counter with sharp transitions. A composed defensive display in the closing stages ensured the Posh saw out a deserved 3–1 win.

Lead Under 18s Coach Jimmy Unwin said: The quality and energy we showed in the first half were key to the result. We scored goals in different ways, and although the conditions were difficult after the heavy rain, the players managed the game excellently in the second half. Bucknor’s saves were also hugely important. We’re building a positive run, so maintaining this level of focus and attitude will be vital going into the next fixtures.”
