Leafield Athletic v Posh Women

Peterborough United Women will look to make it 15 unbeaten in the FA Women’s National League Midlands when they travel to Leafield Athletic on Sunday (3pm).

Peterborough United Women’s February schedule brings what was meant to be a second trip to the West Midlands for Jake Poole’s side, who travel to the Castle Vale Stadium to face Leafield on MD15.

Only ourselves and Boldmere St Michaels have picked up more points than Sunday’s opponents at home this season, who also continued their 100% league record in 2026 with a 4-0 win away at Stourbridge on Wednesday night.

But that’s not to take away from our own form, as an assured 3-0 win over Northampton Town made it 11 straight home wins in all competitions and stretched our unbeaten run in the FAWNL Midlands to 14 games, with 13 wins in that time.

Kira Rai and Hayley James were on target when we defeated Sunday’s opponents on Remembrance Sunday to send us clear at the top, where we still sit. But since then, Tash Tezgel’s team have kept up the chase, with only seven points separating the two positions.

TEAM NEWS

Kira Rai took a knock in the defeat of Northampton, but is expected to travel on Sunday. Niamh Reynolds also featured on Wednesday, so there are no concerns on her part. Otherwise, there are only a couple of concerns that will be assessed closer to the time.

Peterborough United Women extended their unbeaten run to 15 games in the FA Women’s National League Midlands with a stalemate in Birmingham.

Despite creating many goal attempts, Jake Poole’s side were unable to find a way through Leafield Athletic in the Second City on Sunday.

At the other end, our defence held out well when called upon, and added to our defensive record with another clean sheet – the best in the league.

Another point on the board is one in the right direction, but failure to win means we will spend another week in second spot.

It was clear in the early minutes that we meant business, with the chance to maintain our one point lead on Boldmere St Michaels, who had temporarily taken top spot with a win at Sheffield.

Niamh Reynolds went close when the midfielder was set up inside seven minutes, but Colette Bell saved well with her feet.

But Leafield are a team full of quality and carved out a chance of their own when Rosie Embley shot at Kayleigh Hines, who was a large presence in midfield on her return to the team.

Reynolds twice went close to giving us the lead – but for a lack of quality at the other end, the home team could have easily found themselves ahead with a dangerous ball into the box.

It was anyone’s game as Lauren Wilshaw then smashed the crossbar from a wide area, before Poppie Brown’s shot was saved low down to the keeper’s side.

It was breathless at times, with both sides in need of the three points to step up their promotion chances.

But the second half saw both sides create a little amount of openings unlike the first, with our hosts largely playing on the counter.

Anna Pitt brought a save from Bell with an effort from distance after Keir Perkins found the defender in space, before the roles were then reversed when Perkins had an effort denied by the woodwork.

Poole’s side now looked the more likely winners, but lacked the finishing touch as again we were kept out from harms way.

Abi Cowie had a tame effort at the other end, but a free-kick from distance was nothing to trouble Neive Corry, who looked to add to her growing tally of clean sheets.

With frustration growing, it looked as though nothing would go the way of Poole’s side, who missed out on another chance through Rousseau.

Posh had their chances on the day, but were ultimately forced to settle for a point on a frustrating afternoon in B35.
