Posh v Leeds United

Posh beaten in the Emirates FA Cup third round as Leeds United go marching on in the competition.

Peterborough United bowed out of the Emirates FA Cup after a 3-0 defeat to Sky Bet Championship side Leeds United at the Weston Homes Stadium with two set-piece goals and a goal of the season contender from Patrick Bamford ultimately sealing the Whites progression into the fourth round.

In front of a crowd of just under 13,000, it was the visitors who settled quickly and Bamford came close to the breakthrough from a header following a right-wing corner, but the effort went wide. Archie Gray saw a side-footed effort saved by Fynn Talley after an initial poor clearance from the goalkeeper before Wilfried Gnonto saw a cross headed goal-wards by Bamford only for Talley to react quickly to keep it out.

Ricky-Jade Jones stabbed a Harrison Burrows cross wide of the near post on 21 minutes while Hector Kyprianou headed a Jadel Katongo cross wide of the target. On 34 minutes, the visitors opened the scoring as AMPADU forced the ball home following a Jaden Anthony free-kick.

Josh Knight was cautioned for dissent before Posh carved out a glorious opportunity to level only for Kyprianou to scuff a shot wide from close-range. Gnonto was cautioned before the break and moments after it, Leeds made it 2-0 as BAMFORD scored an unstoppable left-footed volley into the corner from the edge of the box.

Talley did well to keep out Anthony on 59 minutes before Ampadu went into the book for a foul. On 71 minutes, Posh could have halved the deficit as a cross from the left was diverted wide by substitute David Ajiboye.

Mason-Clark fired over the top after cutting inside from the left moments later before the visitors grabbed a third goal as AMPADU headed home a Dan James corner kick.
