Posh Women celebrate

Posh Women breeze into the next round of the Northants County Cup.

A dominant Peterborough United Women progress into the next round of the Northamptonshire FA County Cup with ease after an 8-0 victory over Kettering Town Women at the Redwell Leisure Centre on Sunday afternoon.

Dan Lawlor’s side were an immediate threat to the Kettering Town defence with Andreia Oliveria opening the scoring on three minutes after a ball in across the box from Keir Perkins found Oliveria and tapped it home to grab her first goal since being promoted to the first-team.

Posh doubled their lead just a minute later as Oliveria was adjudged to have been brought down inside the box and Megan Lawlor calmly converted from the spot-kick, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.

Lawlor then saw her effort smashed against the top of the crossbar after some brilliant one-touch football from Posh to tee the midfielder up. The hosts did carve out opportunities and were close to pulling a goal back on 14 minutes as their number 10 sent her free-kick well over the bar.

However, Posh extended their advantage on 23 minutes as Lawlor was set free down the left by Hendrick and she played the ball across to Perkins, who fired home from close-range. Kettering Town’s forward seemed to be in the clear to pull one back for the home side after Corry was found off her line, but their effort was cleared off the line by Lucie Mugridge.

On 38 minutes, Perkins doubled her goal and added a fourth for Posh as she tapped home the rebound from Oliveria’s effort from distance, which could only be pushed away into Perkins’ path.

Posh made a change at the break as Tara Kirk replaced Megan Lawlor, while Jess Evans was introduced in the closing stages of the first half. Posh had their fifth goal on 61 minutes as Kayleigh Aylmer’s corner found Kirk at the back-post, she showed composure to switch the ball onto her left-foot before firing home at the near-post.

On 68 minutes, Posh were awarded another penalty after a handball inside the area, and Rachel Lawrence calmly converted from the spot to score on her debut for the club. Kirk grabbed the seventh goal of the afternoon on 80 minutes as she received the ball from Evans in the box and guided her effort into the bottom corner.

As the game entered into injury time, Kirk netted her hat-trick as her low-driven effort from the edge of the box found the bottom corner, solidifying Posh’s place in the third round of the County Cup.

Posh XI: Corry, Aylmer, Connor, Mugridge, Oliveria, Perkins, Steward, Lawlor (Kirk, 46mins), Lawrence, Driscoll (34mins), Hendrick.
