Stevenage v Posh

Stevenage scored deep into stoppage time to move into round three of the Carabao Cup.

Peterborough United were knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the second round stage as Sky Bet League Two outfit Stevenage scored deep into stoppage time to secure a 1-0 victory at the Lamex Stadium.

Midfielder Jack Taylor was cautioned inside the opening 90 seconds of the tie for a foul as referee Chris Pollard ignored the appeals from the former Barnet man that it was the first indiscretion in the contest. At the other end, Jack Taylor squandered a decent shooting opportunity on the edge of the area, firing over the top after good work from David Ajiboye.

Jake Reeves fired over from 20-yards after Kyprianou was penalised for a foul by the referee. Another well-worked Posh set-piece nearly yielded the opener as Taylor’s clipped cross was hacked clear by a defender, but only into the path of Frankie Kent, who could only find the side-netting.

Will Blackmore did well to tip over a fierce drive from Wildin on 13 minutes as the lively opening to the tie continued. Jack Taylor had another shooting opportunity on 16 minutes after Ricky-Jade Jones did well to keep a sliced clearance in play before running at the back-line, the midfielder curling over from the edge of the box.

Michael Bostwick headed over from a corner kick for the home side on 24 minutes as the hosts continued to knock on the door for the opener. Kwame Poku and Kyprianou exchanges passes cleverly 10 minutes before the interval, the former trying to toe-poke an effort towards goal, but it looped up off a defender and went over the bar.

Grant McCann made a change at the interval with Jeando Fuchs replacing Jack Taylor in midfield. Ten minutes later, Posh made a triple change with Jonson Clarke-Harris, Jack Marriott and Ben Thompson introduced.

Clarke-Harris immediately had the ball in the back of the net as Marriott fed him, but the offside flag was raised. Blackmore produced a sharp stop to keep out Earley on the hour mark as Amoo did well to keep the ball in play.

Knight was cautioned for a foul three minutes later, felling Reid in a dangerous position, but the free-kick was deflected wide. Jake Taylor was cautioned for a bad foul on Thompson less than 60 seconds later. Chapman produced two good stops to keep out a low Ward cross and then the rebound from Marriott from close-range.

The visitors won it deep into stoppage time as a cut-back was swept past Blackmore from around 12-yards by Jamie REID.
