NSPCC - Our Nominated Charity For 2018/19

What the NSPCC is doing to protect children in Peterborough
The NSPCC Peterborough Business Group is a voluntary group of over ten Peterborough-based organisations, whose representatives form a committee that meet at the Holiday Inn, Thorpe Wood, to plan, organise and run a number of key charitable events throughout the calendar year.

Through a network of local businesses and individuals who have generously supported events for over 20 years they have helped raise over 900,000 which directly funds services to help protect children and young people from abuse.

With Posh working alongside the NSPCC Peterborough Business Group this season the charity will hope to reach more children across the city through the following NSPCC local services:

Peterborough Service Centre
Located just off Vicarage Farm Road, The NSPCC Service Centre at Flag Business Exchange supports hundreds of young people and their families to help them recover from child abuse and move forward with their lives. NSPCC staff at the centre also work one on one with vulnerable young people to help them recognise grooming, exploitation and unhealthy relationships, both online and offline, giving them the tools to understand consent and stay safe from abuse.

Speak Out Stay Safe
Speak Out Stay Safe

Last year our staff and volunteers delivered “Speak Out Stay Safe” assemblies to over 7,490 primary school children in Peterborough, helping them to recognise and report abuse.

It costs £3 to pay for the NSPCC Speak out Stay safe programme to reach one primary school child, giving them the knowledge to protect themselves from abuse.

An estimated 3,600 counselling sessions were held with children in the county last year seeking support and for someone to listen, but currently due to funding we are only able to answer three in every four calls made to Childline.

It costs £4 to answer a call from a child.

Our confidential Helpline is available for all adults to call with any concerns about a child. Last year 217 calls to the Helpline were serious enough for us to refer them to the local authority or police in Peterborough.

It costs £5 to answer a call to the Helpline.
