Posh head to Scunthorpe United on Saturday in Sky Bet League One action.

Peterborough United look to build on the point pocketed from the midweek draw at Southend United when they travel to Glanford Park to face Scunthorpe United in Sky Bet League One action on Saturday afternoon (3pm).

A close-range effort from striker Jack Marriott, his 10th goal of the campaign so far, earned a 1-1 draw at Roots Hall and puts Posh within touching distance of the play-off positions with a game in hand on most of their rivals.

The Iron drew 1-1 with Fleetwood Town in their last fixture, after two defeats prior to that point against Rotherham United and Wigan Athletic. Scunthorpe strengthened their defence during the summer and have only conceded 10 goals in the league so far this season, one of the better records in the division.

TEAM NEWS

Posh are hopeful that midfielder Michael Doughty will be able to return from a back problem that has kept him out of the previous two fixtures. The former Queens Park Rangers man had a back spasm last week, but is improving and could return to the squad. Junior Morias is the only other confirmed absentee.

Scunthorpe are likely to be missing both Conor Townsend and Andrew Crofts who also failed to make the midweek game against Fleetwood but Tom Hopper comes back into contention after missing the game against Rotherham. Boss Graham Alexander expects Crofts to be back sooner than Townsend but does not envisage them being out for a significant period of time.

MCCANN QUOTES

“Scunthorpe are a good side, they pass the ball well and we know that we will have to be on our game to take something from the match, but we go there with confidence. I thought we were very good in the second half on Tuesday and there are plenty of positives. We have been working hard on getting our midfield players into the box, we know that we need to start contributing goals from all over the pitch not just through Jack Marriott.”

FROM THE OPPOSITION

“We have just got to build on the last two performances which I feel have been good enough to take points from. One point was not enough from our performance on Tuesday and we should have taken something from Rotherham. At the moment we are just under what we would have expected to take from those games, with those sorts of performances and the chances we created,” Scunthorpe boss Graham Alexander said.
