The youth team continued their preparations for the new campaign with a 5-0 pre-season friendly victory over Newquay AFC.

Peterborough United under-18’s continued their busy pre-season schedule with a win over Newquay on Friday (19 June).

The scores were level at the break, but Posh upped their game in the second half and broke down the Newquay defence in magnificent style.

Boss Gavin Strachan was pleased with his sides’ performance against a strong men’s side: ‘They tried to rough us up a bit but we kept going and wore them down with the quality of our football in the end. We kept another clean sheet as well which is always good.’

Goals for Posh came from Regan Carthey, James Ward, Levi Wright, Jonathan Edwards and Tom Conlon. Conlon, who peppered the Newquay goal, was the pick of the bunch with a powerful finish from the edge of the box.

Impressively all nine goals the team have scored during pre-season have now come from different players. Strachan added:  ‘There was a lot better shape to the team in possession. There were a lot of shots, a lot of crosses so that affected us more than it did in our last game. Fitness wise we also looked strong,’ said Strachan.

A Peterborough United XI will face Bedford Town this Saturday (27 July).

Posh: O’Reilly, Carter, Burgess, Trialist, Marshall, Duggan, Ward, Luto, Conlon, Carthey, Phillips. Subs used: Lunga lunga, Hutchins, Wright, Edwards.
