Danny Swanson was on target as Peterborough United held Championship side Watford to a 1-1 draw at London Road on Wednesday evening.

Goalkeeper Joe Day made his first save of a sultry evening on eight minutes to deny a deflected shot from Fernando Forestieri who also sent a shot wide of the near post.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing dragged a shot wide of the target with his left-foot after good persistence from Emile Sinclair on 23 minutes.

Day denied Angella and Anya in quick succession as Watford continued to create chances in front of goal.

McGugan then side-footed the ball straight at Day as the Hornets came close to the breakthrough on the half hour.

McGugan was certainly trying his luck from distance, his effort on 40 minutes finding the side-netting after letting fly from 30-yards.

In the second half, Bond denied Mendez-Laing after the winger had robbed Cassetti before the goalkeeper pushed a Tomlin chip around the post for a corner kick.

The deadlock was broken just before the hour mark and it was a superb goal. Lee Tomlin provided a superb pass for SWANSON who coolly slotted the ball past goalkeeper Bond.

The visitors equalised within minutes as DEENEY side-footed home from close-range after McGugan's free-kick struck the bar.

Shaquille McDonald had the ball in the back of the net on 70 minutes as he slotted in a Sinclair pass, but the offside flag curtailed the youngsters celebrations.

Nicky Ajose headed a Kearns centre over the bar on 83 minutes.
