Gayle Header Earns Posh Point

A header in the final 10 minutes from Dwight Gayle earned Peterborough United a precious point from a hard-fought encounter at the John Smith's Stadium with the two sides fighting out a 2-2 draw.

The lively Sean Scannell fired wide of the near post after cutting inside from the left as the Terriers made a decent start in the opening moments at the John Smith's Stadium.

On 14 minutes, Posh created a glorious chance as Gayle fed Mendez-Laing, who out-paced the defence and saw his shot smothered by Smithies, but the ball rebounded towards goal before Woods cleared it off the line.

Gayle saw a shot saved by Smithies moments later as he poked an effort goal-wards after a good pass from Payne.

Posh were dealt a blow five minutes before the break as Payne limped out of the action after a full bloodied challenge with Kane Ferdinand his replacement.

However, while the substitution was about to take place, Posh were behind as Norwood's shot was beaten out into the path of DANNS who made no mistake from close-range.

McCann curled a free-kick over the bar on the stroke of half-time after Gobern was cautioned for a foul on Little.

Scannell saw a shot parried away by Olejnik at the start of the second period as Posh reverted back to a 4-4-2 formation. On 51 minutes, Posh drew themselves level as a superb run from Mendez-Laing saw him commit two defenders and roll a pass square to TOMLIN who made no mistake, curling past Smithies to make it 1-1.

Posh were screaming for a red card to Woods on 55 minutes as Gayle was felled as he went clean through, but the referee awarded just a yellow card and McCann curled the resulting free-kick over.

Posh made a double change on 63 minutes with Tyrone Barnett and Danny Swanson introduced. The Terriers got their noses back in front moments later as a cross from the left was headed past Olejnik by Murray WALLACE.

Barnett saw a header cleared off the line and from the resulting set-piece, Posh were level as one of the smallest men on the park, GAYLE nodded past goalkeeper Smithies.

Gayle headed a Tomlin corner kick over the top in stoppage time.
