The Peterborough United under 18s kicked off their campaign with a 3-0 win.

Peterborough United’s under 18s began their new season with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Leyton Orient at the Mick George Training Academy on Saturday morning and in truth, the margin of the win could have been far greater following a dominant display.

Luke Harris opened the scoring from close-range after good work from Taylor Horne, Brad Rolt doubled the lead as he raced clear to slot past the keeper and Nicky Guyimah-Bio secured the points after a flowing Posh move.

Manager Matthew Etherington was pleased with his side’s performance, but believes Saturday’s clash at Southend United will provide a stiff test with the Shrimpers well renowned at producing good players from their Academy.

“We played very well. Myself and Simon looked at each other after about half an hour and wondered whether it was going to be one of those days, but we were always in control of the game. We wasted a number of opportunities but in terms of how we moved the ball, we caused them no end of problems.

“Three was the minimum that we deserved from the performance. Leyton Orient kept going until the end, but we were good. The players are learning and improving. There are still bits we can improve on but I was happy with what I saw.

“Southend finished third last year and they won Merit League One last term so this will be a good test for us on Saturday. We have a good group this year and I am excited to see how they progress this season.”

Posh: Allen, Mensah, Rudette-Gregory, Powell, Peters, Jones, Harris, Clarke, Horne, Rolt, Guyimah-Bio.
