The Peterborough United under 18s are into the area final of the PUMA Youth Alliance League Cup after a fantastic penalty shoot-out success at Millwall.

After a goal-less 90 minutes, the tie went straight to the tense shoot-out and Posh converted all five spot-kicks, piling the pressure on the hosts, who missed the deciding penalty.

Nathan Koranteng, Edward Adjei and Matt Breeze all went close in normal time in an open encounter, with Millwall pinning Posh back with their more direct approach in the second period.

Sam Cole made one or two good saves, but was not required in the shoot-out as Millwall blazed the deciding penalty kick over the crossbar.

Alex Austin, Charlie Dove, Ryan Cotton, Edward Adjei and Joe Newell scored the five spot-kicks for Posh to the delight of Head of Youth Dave Robertson.

'The 90 minutes was really open and both sides had chances. The defence had to stand up and be counted, they were very resilliant and had to deal with a lot of long balls into the box.

'I think a draw was probably a fair reflection on the game and we went straight to penalty kicks. Everyone kept their nerve and it is great to be into the area final,' Robertson said.

Posh will face Queens Park Rangers in the area final, which will either take place at Loftus Road or London Road. That is yet to be decided.
