Ferguson Opens MUGA's At Deepings School

Posted on: Thu 26 Mar 2009

Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson, goalkeepers Joe Lewis and James McKeown and winger George Boyd took time out to open the new Multi Use Games Areas at Deepings School.

Over the last few years Deepings School has secured funding for several big projects to update and improve sporting facilities. A sum of £70,000 was invested two years ago to create a more aesthetically pleasing gym and dance space. This space is fantastic and offers an attractive working environment and also external groups.

More recently funding was sought to improve the sporting resources and social space, located at the back of the school. Over £150,000 has now been invested to develop 4 Multi Use Games Areas (MUGA's). These courts can allow a number of sports to be played on them including basketball, netball, football and tennis.

The facility is to be used over the coming months as part of the growing partnership the school has forged with Peterborough United Football Club. The club's youth system will be using the facilities as part of a programme that is in place for their under 15 squad and it is hoped that this will increase over the coming years.

Head of the Performance Faculty Jo Robertson said: 'We are very fortunate to have a large number of people in the school who are passionate about sport and therefore make good use of these opportunities to ensure we have high quality sporting facilities on offer to our pupils and the community. This has been strengthened by the growing relationship the school has with Posh. I knew we are extremely grateful for their support in opening this facility.'
